Curative effect of amlodipine besylate combined with atorvastatin in treatment of morning hypertension

Abstract：Objective To observe the curative effect of amlodipine besylate combined with atorvastatin in treatment of senile morning hypertension. Methods The elderly patients with hypertension (n=110, male 59, female 51 and aged from 60 to 80) were chosen from the Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine of Beijing Changping District from Jan. 2015 to Dec. 2016. All patients were randomly divided into observation group and control group (each n=55), and control group was given oral amlodipine besylate and observation group was given amlodipine besylate combined with atorvastatin for 24 weeks continuously. Before and after treatment for 24 weeks, 24-h ambulatory blood pressure, 24-h mean systolic blood pressure (24-h SBP), 24-h mean diastolic blood pressure (24-h DBP), and mean blood pressure (SBP and DBP) from 6 am to 10 am were monitored. The color Doppler echocardiography was used to detect interventricular septum thickness of end-diastole (IVSTd), left ventricular posterior wall thickness (LVPWT) and left ventricular end-diastolic inner diameter (LVEDd). Results After treatment, 24-h SBP, 24-h DBP, morning SBP and morning DBP all decreased significantly in 2 groups (all P<0.05). Compared with before treatment, IVSTd [(11.8±1.4) mm vs. (10.4±1.2) mm], LVPWT [(12.6±1.0) mm vs. (11.3±1.1) mm] and LVEDd [(48.6±5.2) mm vs. (42.7±5.0) mm] were all improved in 2 groups, which was more significant in observation group (all P<0.05). Conclusion Amlodipine besylate combined with atorvastatin can effectively reduce blood pressure and relieve left ventricular hypertrophy in elderly patients with morning hypertension.
