Abstract:Objective To discuss the correlation between self-efficacy for symptom management and social support in elderly patients with chronic heart failure (CHF). Methods CHF patients (n=102) were chosen and given questionnaire from the Department of Cardiology of Caofeidian Hospital of Tangshan City from Oct. 2015 to Mar. 2016, and self-efficacy and social support were appraised by using the Self-efficacy For Symptom Management Scale (SESMS) and Perceived Social Support Scale (PSSS). Results The scores of self-efficacy were (6.13±0.76) and scores of social support were (56.88±9.11) in CHF patients. The self-efficacy was positively correlated to perceived social support (r=0.583), perceived family support (r=0.808), perceived friend support (r=0.226), and perceived important others support (r=0.614, all P<0.05). Conclusion The self-efficacy for symptom management and social support are correlated to each other in elderly CHF patients, and as the patients get more social support, the self-efficacy for symptom management will be higher.
