A survey on depression and sleep quality in inpatients with cardiovascular diseases

Abstract:Objective To survey the depression situation and sleep quality in inpatients with cardiovascular diseases in a third-class one-grade hospital.Methods The inpatients (n=102, male 55, female 47, aged from 31 to 84 and average age=63.3±8.3) were chosen from the Department of Cardiovascular Diseases of Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital from Apr. 2016 to Apr. 2017. All inpatients filled questionnaires assisted by doctors and nurses after systematic training. The inpatients' depression situation was reviewed by using self-rating depressive scale (SDS), and their sleep quality was reviewed by using Pittsburgh sleep quality index (PSQI).Results Of 102 inpatients, there were 23 (22.5%) being normal, 47 (46.1%) with mild depression, 31 (30.4%) with moderate depression, 1 (1.0%) with severe depression, and totally 79 (77.5%) with depression. Of 102 inpatients, there were 1 (1.0%) with fine sleep, 56 (54.9%) with good sleep, 31 (30.4%) with general sleep, and 14 (13.7%) with poor sleep. Conclusion The inpatients with cardiovascular diseases all have depression and sleep problems, which should be paid attention to and given psychological treatment.
