Abstract:Objectives To investigate the changes of plasma growth differentiation factor 15 (GDF-15) and N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) in patients with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM) and their correlations. Methods 50 DCM patients were enrolled and divided into group A and group B, and 30 controls were enrolled as control group. GDF-15 and NT-proBNP were measured in patients who were enrolled in this study. DCM patients were classified into grade II, III and IV according to the New York Heart Association (NYHA). The correlation between cardiac function grade and GDF-15 and NT-proBNP levels was observed. Results Compared with the control group, GDF-15 and NT-proBNP were increased in group A and B, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). Compared with group B, GDF-15 and NT-proBNP in group A increased, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). The higher the NYHA cardiac function grade, the higher the level of GDF-15 and NT-proBNP. Conclusions GDF-15 and NT-proBNP levels are instructive for the risk stratification and prognosis of DCM patients.
