Influence of enhanced external counter pulsation on vascular endothelial function in patients with stable angina pectoris

Abstract：Objective To investigate the influence of enhanced external counter pulsation (EECP) on vascular endothelial function in patients with stable angina pectoris (SAP) for further revealing the therapeutic mechanism. Methods SAP patients (n=84, male 51 and female 33) were chosen from the People's Hospital of Baoji City in Shaanxi Province from Jan. 2015 to Dec. 2016. All patients were divided, according to random digital table, into observation group and control group (eachn=42). The control group was treated with routine drugs and observation group was additionally given EECP. The seizure frequency, time of duration and total ischemic burden (TIB) of SAP were compared between 2 groups during treatment. The endothelium-dependence brachial artery flow-mediated dilation (FMD), non-endothelium- dependence FMD (NMD) and change rate of peak flow velocity were compared between 2 groups before and after treatment.Results The seizure frequency, time of duration and TIB of SAP decreased significantly in 2 groups after treatment (all P<0.05). The seizure frequency of SAP was (1.03±0.46) times/wk, time of duration was (2.84±0.51) min and TIB was (10.17±4.72) mm/min in observation group after treatment, which were significantly lower than those in control group (all P<0.05). The comparison in NMD showed the difference had no statistical significance before and after treatment in 2 groups (all P>0.05). FMD and change rate of peak flow velocity were significantly higher in 2 groups after treatment than before. In observation group, FMD was (10.08±2.05)％ and change rate of peak flow velocity was (68.11±9.57)％, which were significantly higher than those in control group (all P<0.05).Conclusion EECP can further improve therapeutic effect through strengthening endothelium-dependence FMD in patients with SAP.
