Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical value of matrix metalloproteinases-8 (MMP-8) in acute myocardial infarction (AMI) and coronary artery disease evaluation. Methods A total of 66 AMI patients were included as AMI group. And 44 healthy subject were enrolled as control group. The differences of blood pressure, triglyceride, total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein cholesterol, low density lipoprotein cholesterol and body mass index were compared between the two groups. The differences of MMP-8 and troponin Ⅰ between the two groups were compared. According to the results of coronary angiography, the patients were divided into single vessel disease, double-vessel disease and three-vessel disease group. The differences of MMP-8, troponin Ⅰ, triglyceride and cholesterol were compared between the two groups. Results The levels of systolic blood pressure, triglycerides, total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein cholesterol in AMI group were significantly higher, and the level of high density lipoprotein cholesterol was significantly lower compared with control group (P<0.05). There was no significant difference in diastolic blood pressure, body mass index, creatinine and fasting blood sugar between the two groups (P>0.05). In AMI group, MMP-8(29.85±9.43vs. 3.28±2.55)ng/ml and troponin Ⅰ(4.02±3.38vs. 0.08±0.067)ug/l were significantly higher than control group (P<0.05). MMP-8 was positively correlated with troponin Ⅰ (r=0.739,P<0.01). There was no significant difference in troponin, triglyceride, cholesterol and fasting blood glucose among the three groups. Conclusion MMP-8 might be an effective biomarker in identification of AMI and evaluating the severity of coronary artery stenosis.
