Abstract:Objective To detect the level of homocysteine (Hcy) and analyze the optimal therapeutic dose of folic acid in patients with H-type hypertension. Methods The patients with H-type hypertension (n=282, male 138 and female 144) were chosen from the Hospital of Geriatrics in Baoding City of Hebei Province from Jan. 2016 to Oct. 2016. All patient were divided, according to the doses of taken folic acid, into group A (n=108), group B (n=120) and group C (n=54). Group A was orally given 5 mg folic acid, group B, 10 mg and group C, 15 mg every day for 30 d. The level of Hcy was detected by using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) before and 30 d after the intervention. Results The level of Hcy was higher in patients aged≥60 than that in patients aged from 30 to 59 [(26.47±8.91) μmol/Lvs. (22.21±10.94) μmol/L,P<0.05]. The level of Hcy was (26.45±11.9) μmol/L in male patients and (22.17±7.78) μmol/L in female ones (P<0.05). The level of Hcy decreased significantly in all groups (allP<0.05), and the decrease was more significant in group B.Conclusion The level of Hcy rises as patients' age increasing, and is higher in male patients than that in female ones. The dose of folic acid in 10 mg/d is the optimal dose for treating hyperhomocysteinemia.
