Clinical analysis of association between thyroid stimulating hormone and elderly patients with diabetes mellitus complicated with coronary heart disease

Abstract：Objective To explore the association between thyroid stimulating hormone and elderly patients with diabetes mellitus complicated with coronary heart disease(CHD).Methods 240 elderly diabetes patients including 130 patients with CHD were selected, as well as 125 healthy elderly people. Body height, body weight, abdominal circumference, hip circumference, electrocardiogram, blood pressure, blood lipids, fasting blood glucose (FPG) and fasting insulin (FINS), insulin resistance index (HOMA - IR) were measured. And free three iodine thyroid (FT3), free thyroxine (FT4) and TSH were also measured.Results The levels of total cholesterol and low-density cholesterol in elderly patients with diabetes mellitus and CHD were higher than those in elderly patients with diabetes mellitus only (P<0.05). The level of TSH in elderly diabetic patients with CHD was higher than that in other groups (P<0.05). Diabetes duration, LDL-C and TSH are risk factors of diabetes mellitus complicated with CHD.Conclusion Thyroid stimulating hormone is closely associated with diabetes mellitus and CHD in the elderly patients.
