Abstract:Objective To investigate the relationship between level of cystatin C (Cys C) and severity of coronary artery lesions in patients with suspected coronary heart disease (CHD).Methods The patients received multi-slice spiral coronary computed tomography angioplasty (CTA,n=503, male 278, female 225, aged from 42 to 78 and average age=57.5±5.1) were chosen from Chinese PLA General Hospital from Jan. 2014 to Jan. 2015. The level of Cys C were detected in all patients, and then they were divided into normal Cys C group (n=308, Cys C≤1.25 mg/L) and higher Cys C group (n=195, Cys C>1.25 mg/L). The number of lesion vessels of coronary artery was determined by using coronary CTA, and severity of coronary stenosis was analyzed in 2 groups. Results The percentage of patients with multi-vessel lesion of coronary artery increased in higher Cys C group compared with normal Cys C group (28.9%vs. 35.9%,P<0.05). The percentage of patients with severe stenosis of coronary artery increased (38.0%vs. 19.5%), and that of mild stenosis decreased (32.3%vs. 54.5%) in higher Cys C group compared with normal Cys C group (allP<0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that the level of Cys C was an independent risk factor of multi-vessel lesion and severe stenosis of coronary artery. Conclusion The level of plasma Cys C is correlated to severity of coronary artery lesions in patients with suspected CHD, and detection of Cys C level can be used for predicting severity of coronary artery lesions.
