Cardiovascular risk factors in male population of different age groups in nursing houses in Northern China
Abstract:Objective To get to know the prevalence state of cardiovascular risk factors in male population of different age groups in nursing houses in Northern China. Methods The male cases (n=1435) were given questionnaire, physical examination and laboratory tests by using standardized epidemiological method of cardiovascular epidemiology from Jul. 2011 to Sept. 2012. All cases were divided, according to age, into group A (aged from 20 to 44), group B (aged from 45 to 59), group C (aged from 60 to 74) and group D (over 75), and the distribution of cardiovascular risk factors was investigated in all groups. Results The detection rate of hypertension was 71.9%, smoking, 39.7%, overweight or obesity, 39.0%, dyslipidemia, 34.8% and pathoglycemia, 15.4%. The mean value of ratio of urinary sodium to potassium (mmol/L: mmol/L) reached 8.2±4.8. The first risk factor was overweight or obesity (45.1%), hypertension (55.7%), hypertension (75.6%) and hypertension (83.5%), respectively, in group A, group B, group C and group D. The percentage of patients with over 3 risk factors was 21.1% in group A, 28.2% in group B, 35.1% in group C and 26.2% in group D.Conclusion Cardiovascular risk factors are prevalent in male population living in nursing houses in Northern China. The distribution of these risk factors is different in different age groups, and the health intervention should be given purposefully. The higher ratio of urinary sodium to potassium in all age groups reflects high sodium and low potassium diet habit, so intake of sodium salt should be restrained actively and intake of potassium should be increased.
