The effect of surgical correction on negative emotion in funnel chest patients

Abstract:Objective To observe the effect of surgical correction on negative emotion in funnel chest patients. Methods 277 adolescent patients with funnel chest of the Army General Hospital of PLA were selected from Jun 2009 to Jan 2012. Funnel cheat index and feelings of inadequacy scale (FIS) were used to measure physiological characteristics and psychological characteristics and compare feeling of inferiority index before and after surgery. Results Compared with results of preoperative test, the total score of FIS, test the postoperative social self-respect and looking scores were significantly reduced (P<0.01). Result of regression analysis showed that the funnel chest index was positively related with the FIS total score and had a predictive effect for social inferiority and inferiority of appearance, with B values are: 2.187, 0.878 and 0.355 respectively (P<0.01).Conclusion The surgical correction of the funnel chest patients can eliminate the negative stimulation, which provides the basis for the psychological rehabilitation of the patients with funnel chest.
