Abstract:Objective To investigate the relationship between serum uric acid (SUA) and blood pressure and related metabolic indexes in elderly men with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).Methods The clinical data of 576 cases who were in community from August 2013 to May 2012,was collected for cross-sectional survey. Height, body mass index (BMI), blood glucose, blood pressure, SUA and other indicators were gathered. According to the SUA level, the data were divided into four groups, and T test or analysis of variance was used to evaluate the differences among four groups. Logistics regression analysis was used to find out the relationship between SUA, systolic blood pressure (SBP), diastolic blood pressure (DBP) and related indexes.P<0.05 was considered to be statistically significant. Results In this study, the incidence of abnormal blood pressure in different levels of SUA were 37% (50/135), 47.2% (68/144), 47.6% (72/151), and 56.8% (83/146). The results showed that SBP increased with the increasing level of SUA and they had a positive correlation (P<0.05), but there was no significance correlation between DBP and SUA (P>0.05).Conclusion SBP is significantly positively correlated with the level of SUA, but DBP has no significant correlation with the level of SUA. The results indicate that the level of SUA is closely related with the SBP in patients with T2DM.
