Abstract:Objective To study relationship between plasma brain natriuretic peptide (BNP) and prognosis of chronic congestive heart failure (CHF).Methods 80 patients between 40~80 years old (64.28±8.31) of Jintan people's hospital from Oct. 2013 to Oct. 2011 were enrolled, including 52 males, 28 females. Then the patients were divided into four groups depending on heart function grade of NYHA: NYHA-I (10 patients), NYHA-II (13 patients), NYHA-III (33 patients), NYHA-IV (24 patients). And the patients were divided into two groups depending on BNP level at discharge: normal group (BNP≤100pg/mL, 21 patients) and BNP increased group (BNP>100 pg/mL, 59 patients). The BNP concentration of 80 CHF patients was measured by ELISA. The left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and left ventricular end-diastolic diameter (LVEDD) were measured by Doppler ultrasound. And the patients were followed up for two years including mortality, the annual average number of hospitalizations and the average length of stay. Results With increased NYHA grade, BNP levels and LVEDD were gradually increased, LVEF was decreased (P<0.05). After 2 years’ follow-up, the mortality, the annual average number of hospitalizations and the average length of stay in BNP increased group were increased than normal group [(15.3%vs. 4.8%); (3.1±0.7) timesvs. (1.5±0.5) times; (51.9±12.9) daysvs. (30.1±8.1) days;P<0.05] Conclusion CHF patients with increasing of plasma BNP have poor prognosis.
