Abstract:Objective To observe the clinical efficacy of lipoic acid injection on peripheral neuropathy (PNP) in elderly patient with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).Methods The elderly T2DM patients with PNP (n=60) were chosen from the Chinese PLA Army General Hospital from Dec. 2013 to Feb. 2015, and randomly divided into observation group and control group (eachn=30). The observation group was treated with lipoic acid injection, cobamamide and Danhong Injection, and control group was treated with cobamamide and Danhong Injection for 3 w. The curative effect, changes of nerve conduction velocity (NCV) including motor nerve NCV and sensory nerve NCV and adverse reactions were compared in 2 groups before and after treatment. Results The total effective rate was higher in observation group than that in control group (P<0.05). NCV increased significantly in 2 groups after treatment (P<0.05). The improvement effect of median nerve was better in observation group than that in control group (P<0.05), but improvement effect of common peroneal nerve had no significant difference between 2 groups (P>0.05). There were no adverse reactions observed in 2 groups. Conclusion Lipoic acid injection is safe and effective in treatment of PNP) in elderly patient with T2DM, which has good application prospect in clinic.
