Abstract:Objective To discuss the influence of funnel chest on patient’s personality through analyzing the relationship between index of funnel chest and patient’s personality. Methods The patients with funnel chest (n=200) were chosen randomly from Jul. 2009 to Oct. 2014. The indexes of funnel chest were detected before operation, and the relationship between physical status and personality was observed by using Eysenck Personality Questionnaire (EPQ).Results There were totally 200 patients (male 166, female 34 and average age=19.72±5.32) chosen, and average number of years of sternum subsidence was (10.43±6.88), index of funnel chest was (4.22± 1.38) and there were no other complications observed. The results of EPQ showed as follows: E standard=(11.64± 4.80), N standard=(10.03±3.57) and P standard=(5.08±2.46). The index of funnel chest was negatively correlated to E standard (r=-0.540,P=0.0001), and positively correlated to N standard and P standard (r=0.328,P=0.0001;r=0.452,P=0.0001). The number of years of sternum subsidence was negatively correlated to E standard (r=-0.307, P=0.008), and positively correlated to index of funnel chest, standard N and standard P (r=0.359,P=0.0001;r=0.187,P=0.008;r=0.304,P=0.0001).Conclusion The higher index of funnel chest and longer time of sternum subsidence can promote extroverted patients to shift to introverted ones, and their mood will trend to panic.
