Abstract:Objective To study the associations between rs17484721 and rs36035572 of RBP4 (retinal binding protein 4) gene with Type 2 Diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in old People. Methods A combined method of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and denaturing high performance liquid chromatography (DHPLC) was applied to detect the genotype of rs17484721 and rs36035572 among 110 T2DM patients and 127 healthy subjects. Fasting glucose and fasting insulin were measured and analyzed in two groups. Body mass index (BMI), waist-hip ratio (WHR) and insulin resistance index were calculated. Results Strong linkage disequilibrium were found in rs17484721 and rs36035572. In health control group, the WHR was significantly higher in subjects with TT-II genotype. TT-II frequency of T2DM group (87.2%) was higher than the control subjects (78.7%,P<0.05).Conclusions The polymorphism of RBP4 gene may be related to T2DM in old people.
