Abstract:Objective To systematically review the association between asthma and risk of coronary heart disease (CHD).Methods A systematic literature search for asthma and the risk of coronary heart disease cohort studies were conducted in databases including Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI), Wanfang, PubMed, EMbase until November 2015. Quality of all included studies were evaluated according to NOS tool. Meta-analysis was conducted to calculate pooled HR and corresponding 95% confidence intervals. We also conducted a number of sub-groups analysis stratified by gender, regions, populations and research quality. Results Six studies were included in the meta-analysis, with a total of 510, 822 subjects and 18, 105 CHD cases. The results showed that the risk of CHD in asthma patients was significant increased than subjects without asthma (HR=1.41, 95%CI: 1.36~1.45,P<0.001). Results of subgroup analysis suggested that the risk of CHD among asthma patients were higher in females than males. Results of subgroup analyses with respect of regions, populations and research quality showed statistical significance. Conclusion Asthma may be associated with increased risk of coronary heart disease.
