Influence of rosuvastatin combining probucol on carotid atherosclerosis, blood fat and inflammatory factors in elderly patients with cerebral infarction

Abstract：Objective To investigate the influence of rosuvastatin combining probucol on carotid atherosclerosis, blood fat and inflammatory factors in elderly patients with cerebral infarction.Methods The patients (n=120, aged over 80) were chosen from Mar. 2013 to Dec. 2014, and randomly divided into control group and probucol group (eachn=60). All groups were given health education, dietary guidance, moderate exercise and trim control of basic diseases. The control group was given routine treatment including anti-platelet aggregation, lowering blood pressure, reducing blood pressure, expansion of coronary artery, and lipid lowering with rosuvastatin, and probucol group was additionally given probucol for 6 m.Results In control group, carotid artery intima-media thickness (CA-IMT) was decreased, carotid intimal plaque was reduced, levels of TC, TG and LDL-C decreased, HDL-C increased, and hs-CRP, MMP-9, IL-6, TNF-α and neurological impairment scores decreased after treatment for 6 m (P<0.05). The level of serum oxLDL-Ab had no significant changes. In probucol group, CA-IMT was decreased, carotid intimal plaque was reduced, and levels of TC, TG, LDL-C, HDL-C, oxLDL-Ab, hs-CRP, MMP-9, IL-6, TNF-α and neurological impairment scores all decreased after treatment for 6 m (P<0.05). Compared with control group, CA-IMT was decreased, carotid intimal plaque was reduced, and levels of TC, TG, LDL-C, HDL-C, oxLDL-Ab, hs-CRP, MMP-9, IL-6, TNF-α and neurological impairment scores decreased more significantly in probucol group with statistical significance after treatment for 6 m.Conclusion Rosuvastatin and probucol all have effects of controlling and reducing carotid intimal plaque, lowering blood fat, antioxidation, anti-infection and improving neurological function. The curative effect of rosuvastatin combining probucol was better than that of single rosuvastatin.
