Influence of irbesartan-hydrochlorothiazide mixture on urine microalbumin creatinine ratio in elderly patients with hypertension

Abstract：Objective To investigate the influence of irbesartan- hydrochlorothiazide mixture on urine microalbumin creatinine ratio (UACR) in elderly patients with hypertension.Methods The patients with grade 1 or grade 2 hypertension (n=126) were chosen from Feb. 2012 to Feb. 2015, and were divided, according to UACR, into normal control group (UACR<30 mg/g,n=46), microalbumin group (30 mg/g≤UACR<300 mg/g,n=43) and clinical albuminuria group (UACR≥300 mg/g,n=37). All groups were given irbesartan- hydrochlorothiazide mixture for lowering blood pressure. The changes of UACR were compared in 3 groups before and 6 m after treatment.Results After treatment, systolic blood pressure [(128.93±8.77) mmHgvs. (157.66±9.23) mmHg; (130.18±8.56) mmHg vs. (158.35±8.88) mmHg; (131.54±9.07)vs. (158.66±9.15) mmHg], and diastolic blood pressure [(79.37±6.15) mmHgvs. (98.93±5.26) mmHg; (80.64±5.84) mmHgvs. (99.24±5.35) mmHg; (80.94±5.59) mmHgvs. (99.36± 5.21) mmHg] all decreased significantly in 3 groups (P<0.01). UACR decreased significantly in microalbumin group after treatment [(143.27±55.73) mg/gvs. (167.22±62.84) mg/g,P<0.05]. The difference in UACR before and after treatment had no statistical significance in normal control group and clinical albuminuria group [(18.67±3.97) mg/gvs. (19.53±4.57) mg/g; (348.61±23.52) mg/gvs. (356.17±27.35) mg/g,P>0.05].Conclusion Irbesartan-hydrochlorothiazide mixture can effectively reduce blood pressure and UACR in elderly patients with hypertension, but has no short-term significant effect on UACR in patients with normal albuminuria or clinical albuminuria.
