Influence of psychological intervention combining escitalopram on blood pressure in elderly patients with ;hypertension accompanied by anxiety

Abstract:Objective To discuss the control effect of psychological intervention combining escitalopram on blood pressure (BP) in elderly patients with hypertension accompanied by general anxiety disorder. Methods The elderly patients (n=28, male 18, female 10, aged from 61 to 84 and average age=72±6) were chosen from Aug. 2011 to Mar. 2014. Besides of routine antihypertension therapy, all patients were given psychological intervention and escitalopram for 12 w. The changes of BP and scores of self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) were observed. Results In 28 patients, systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure decreased significantly after intervention [(136.2 ±9.1) mmHg vs. (164.6±8.9) mmHg] and [(81.3±8.8) mmHg vs. (105.7±9.4) mmHg], and SAS scores decreased after intervention [(38.22±6.64) vs. (56.63±12.35), all P<0.05]. Conclusion Psychological intervention combining escitalopram can ameliorate BP and anxiety statues in elderly patients with hypertension accompanied by general anxiety disorder.
