Abstract:Objective To investigate the role of regulatory T cells in progress of coronary heart disease (CHD) promoted by periodontitis. Methods CHD patients (n=90) were divided, according to outcomes of coronary angiography (CAG) and Armitage diagnostic criteria of periodontitis, into chest pain syndrome group (CPS group, CHD group and CHD combining periodontitis group (CHD-P group), and then CHD-P group was further divided into CHD-P1 group (CHD combining mild-moderate periodontitis) and CHD-P2 group (CHD combining severe periodontitis). The proportion of CD4+CD25+Foxp3+Treg cells in regulatory T cells was analyzed by using flow cytometry. Results Gensini scores increased significantly in CHD-P2 group (65.86±39.94) compared with CHD-P1 group (31.23±33.53) and CHD group (13.09±7.59, P<0.05). Gensini scores increased significantly in CHD-P1 group compared with CHD group (P<0.05). CD4+CD25+Foxp3+Treg/CD4+T decreased in CHD-P group [(1.93±0.46)%] compared with CHD group [(2.32±0.72)%] and CPS group [(2.54±0.95)%, P<0.05]. Conclusion The quantity of regulatory T cells can be reduced further by periodontitis, so regulatory T cells is closely correlated to progress of CHD promoted by periodontitis.
