Abstract:Objective To review the relationship between periodontal disease and hypertension risk by applying Meta-analysis. Methods The databases of PubMed, EMbase, CBM, CNKI and WanFang Database were retrieved for collecting the observational studies about the relationship between periodontal disease and hypertension risk from database establishing time to Mar. 2014. All studies were screened, extracted and reviewed according to NOS tool by 2 researchers, and then given a Meta-analysis by using CMA v2.2 software. Results There were finally 7 case-control studies and 3 cohort studies included. The results of Meta-analysis showed that periodontal disease improved the incidence of hypertension by 1.86 times (OR=1.86, 95%CI:1.32-2.62, P<0.01), and sensitivity analysis showed that the results were stable. The subgroup analysis showed that cohort studies and American people were not significant. Publication bias was mild. Conclusion Periodontal disease might be a significant risk factor to hypertension based on current evidence. Due to the limitation of this Meta-analysis, the results should be confirmed in the future.
