Related risk factors of arrhythmia in elderly terminal stage patients with tumor

Abstract：Objective To investigate the related risk factors of arrhythmia in elderly terminal stage patients with tumor for reasonable prevention and treatment.Methods The patients [n=362, male 168, female 194, aged from 61 to 103 and average age=(73.91±9.742)] were chosen from May 2010 to July 2013, and then divided, according to whether or not complicating arrhythmia, into control group (n=256) and arrhythmia group (n=106). The baseline data including age, sex, hospitalization days (before arrhythmia), ECOG, smoking index (smoking number×smoking years), LVEF and complicated diseases were collected in all patients.Results Compared with control group, in arrhythmia group patients' age was higher, hospitalization days increased, ECOG increased, percentage of cases with complicating coronary heart disease (CHD), chronic lung disease combining hyoxemia, acidosis and pulmonary infection increased, and hemoglobin (Hb) level and LVEF decreased (allP<0.05). The results of multiple Logistic stepwise regression analysis showed that pulmonary infection (OR=15.858, 95%CI:2.294~109.624), chronic lung disease combining hyoxemia (OR=10.768, 95%CI: 1.949~59.687), CHD (OR=10.306, 95%CI: 1.796-59.159), acidosis (OR=7.618, 95%CI: 1.431~40.550), ECOG (OR=3.342, 95%CI: 1.810~6.174), hospitalization days (OR=1.201, 95%CI: 1.114~1.295), age (OR=1.108, 95%CI: 1.021~1.202), decreased Hb (anemia,OR=0.929, 95%CI: 0.889~0.970), and decreased LVEF (OR=0.873, 95%CI: 0.817~0.933) were risk factors of arrhythmia in elderly terminal stage patients with tumor (allP<0.05).Conclusion It is easily complicated by arrhythmia when elderly terminal stage patients with tumor had complicating pulmonary infection, chronic lung disease combining hyoxemia, CHD, acidosis, aging and decreases of Hb and LVEF.
