Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of health management in retired army cadres with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Methods The patients with T2DM (n=84, male 60 and female 24, aged from 60 to 95) were chosen from Jan. 2011 to Dec. 2011. The management group was given targeted health education and behavior guide for 24 m, and control group was treated with routine drugs. The indexes including body mass index (BMI), blood pressure (BP), glycated hemoglobin (HbAlc), fasting plasma glucose (FPG) and 2-hour postprandial blood glucose (2-hPBG) were detected in 2 groups before and after health management. Results Compared with control group, in management group systolic BP [(126.2±13.1) mmHg vs. (121.8±12.1) mmHg], FPG [(7.31±2.04) mmol/L vs. (6.54±1.83) mmol/L] and 2-hPBG [(11.59±2.71) mmol/L vs. (9.64±2.36) mmHg] decreased after treatment (all P<0.05). The incidence of hypoglycemia, peripheral neuropathy, nephropathy, retinopathy, ischemia heart disease and cerebrovascular accidents decreased in management group compared with control group (all P<0.05). Conclusion Health management has good intervention effect and can control blood sugar and reduce incidence of diabetic complications in retired army cadres with T2DM.
