Current situation of anxiety and depression in elderly patients with coronary heart disease

Abstract:Objective To understand the epidemiologic state of anxiety and depression in elderly patients with coronary heart disease (CHD), and discuss the correlation between anxiety and depression. Methods The unified questionnaire [including general information questionnaire, self-rating anxiety scale (SAS) and self-rating depression scale (SDS)] were completed by patients within 1 w after hospitalization through interview, unified instruction and form-filling method. Results Among 164 elderly patients with CHD, 44 (26.8%) had anxiety, 54 (32.9%) had depression and 24 (14.6%) had both anxiety and depression. Conclusion The severity of anxiety and depression is higher in CHD patients than that in non-CHD patients. There is correlation between anxiety and depression in elderly patients with CHD.
