Abstract:Objective To discuss the changes of telomere length of peripheral white blood cells (PWBC) in patients with premature coronary artery disease (PCAD). Methods The patients (n=80, male 43 and female 37) hospitalized in the Department of Cadre Healthcare of Qingdao Municipal Hospital were chosen as case group from Jan. 2010 to Nov. 2011. The case group was divided, according to Gensini integrals, into group A, group B, group C and group D, and also divided, according to disease extent, into 1-vessel group, 2-vessel group and multi-vessel group. At the same time, other 76 cases with examinations of coronary angiography (CAG) or coronary CTA for excluding CHD were chosen as control group. The changes of biochemical indexes, blood pressure (BP) and ratio of telomere length (T/S) were detected in all groups. Results T/S was (0.87±0.31) in case group and (1.12±0.25) in control group, which indicated that telomere length of PWBC was significantly shorter in case group than that in control group (P<0.05). T/S was (0.89±0.41) in group A, (0.91±0.32) in group B, (0.87±0.29) in group C and (0.84 ±0.34) in group D (all P>0.05). T/S was (0.88±0.35) in 1-vessel group, (0.85±0.47) in 2-vessel group and (0.89 ±0.26) in multi-vessel group (all P>0.05). Conclusion The telomere length of PWBC is shorter in patients with PCAD, but it is not correlated to stenosis degree and disease extent of coronary artery.
