Abstract:Objective To review systematically the correlation between erectile dysfunction (ED) and risk of coronary heart disease (CHD) in diabetic patients. Methods The databases of PubMed, Embase, CNKI, CBM and WanFang Database were retrieved for collecting the published observation studies on the correlation between ED and CHD risk. The data was extracted from eligible literature and given a Meta-analysis by using CMA v2 software. Results There were finally 3 cohort studies, 1 case-control study and 9 cross-sectional studies included. The results of Meta-analysis showed that CHD risk significantly increased in diabetic patients with ED (cohort studies:RR=1.72, 95%CI:1.50-1.98, P<0.01, and case-control and cross-sectional studies:OR=3.07, 95%CI:2.05~4.59, P<0.01). Sensitivity analysis showed the results were stable. Conclusion CHD risk significantly increases in diabetic patients with ED, while further studies are necessary to explore whether ED is a risk factor or just a marker.
