Abstract:Objective To discuss the influence of atorvastatin on carotid artery intima-media thickness (CA-IMT) in the patients with isolated systolic hypertension and normal blood fat. Methods The patients (n=150) were randomly divided into treatment group and control group (each n=75), and control group was orally given Norvasc (5 mg once a day) and treatment group was given Lipitor (20 mg once a night) and Norvasc for 12 m. The changes of the IMT of CCA, BULB and ICA and blood pressure (BP) indexes were observed by using high-frequency ultrasound in 2 groups before and after treatment. Results Before treatment the IMT of CCA, BULB and ICA and BP indexes had no statistical difference between 2 groups (all P>0.05). After treatment for 12 m, the IMT of CCA, BULB and ICA was, respectively, 0.80±0.17 mm, 0.91±0.18 mm and 0.67±0.18 mm in treatment group, and 0.88 ±0.21 mm, 1.07±0.18 mm and 0.76±0.19 mm in control group. Compared with control group, the IMT of CCA, BULB and ICA decreased significantly in treatment group (P<0.05). After treatment, pulse pressure was 58.06±5.56 mmHg in treatment group and 67.18±4.68 mmHg in control group (P<0.05). Conclusion The administration of Lipitor can ameliorate CA-IMT, reduce pulse pressure and delay the progress of atherosclerosis in the patients with isolated systolic hypertension and normal blood fat.
