Abstract:Objective To discuss the relationship between level of fasting blood glucose (FBG) and heart rate variability (HRV). Methods The patients (n=123) were analyzed retrospectively and then divided into normal blood glucose group (NBG group, FBG<6.1 mmol/L, n=55), impaired fasting glucose group (IFG group, 6.1 mmol/L≤FBG<7.0 mmol/L, n=36) and diabetes group (FBG≥7.0mmol/L, n=32) according to level of FBG. All patients were given 24-h monitoring of dynamic electrocardiogram for detecting time-domain indexes of HRV. Results Compared with NBG group, the total population standard deviation (SDNN), standard deviation (SDANN), root means squares (RMSSD) and percentage (pNN50) of HRV time-domain indexes all decreased in IFG group and diabetes group (P<0.05). Compared with diabetes group, SDNN, SDANN, RMSSD and pNN50 all decreased in IFG group but there was no statistical difference (P>0.05). Conclusion In IFG patients and diabetic patients, time-domain indexes of HRV all decrease, which is more significant in IFG patients.
