Abstract:Objective To observe the curative effect of zopiclone combining anti-hypertension drugs in treatment of non-dipper hypertension complicating insomnia in elderly patients. Methods The elderly patients (n=80) were randomly divided into observation group and control group (each n=40), and given, respectively, zopiclone and placebo besides of anti-hypertension drugs for 4 w. The changes of blood pressure (BP), heart rate (HR) and BP patterns were observed by using ambulatory monitor. At the same time the patients were reviewed with sleep dysfunction rating scale (SDRS) and treatment emergent symptom scale (TESS). Results After 4-w treatment, SDRS scores decreased significantly in observation group. The total effective rate from insomnia was 72.5%in observation group and 15.0%in control group (P<0.05). Compared with before treatment, 24hSBP, dSBP, nSBP, 24hHR, dHR and nHR decreased significantly in observation group, and had no significant changes in control group (P>0.05). The rate of retrieving from non-dipper BP to dipper BP was significantly higher in observation group than that in control group (60.0%vs. 7.5%, P<0.05). Conclusion Zopiclone has significant curative effect on non-dipper hypertension complicating insomnia, and at the same time of improving sleeping, it can reduce SBP and HR and convert circadian rhythm of non-dipper BP.
