Abstract:The proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9(PCSK9)inhibitors represent a novel class of lipid-lowering medications that hold substantial promise in the prevention and treatment of Atherosclerotic Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease(ASCVD).Drawing insights from a comprehensive analysis of global patent data on PCSK9 inhibitors, this article delves into the current landscape of innovative drug development, with the goal of offering strategic recommendations for future research and development endeavors in this field.Global patent landscape reveals that monoclonal antibodies constitute the predominant class of PCSK9 inhibitors, while the development of small molecule compounds,siRNAs,and gene-editing therapies has sustained rapid growth in recent years. To date, six innovative drugs have received market approval, including five monoclonal antibodies and one siRNA-based therapy. The article advocates for an intensified focus on the research of siRNAs,small molecule compounds, and gene-editing treatments,as well as the exploration of innovative approaches to long-acting formulations, oral dosage forms, and the development of second-line therapies.Furthermore, natural ingredients from traditional Chinese herbal medicine present a promising avenue that can capitalize on our unique strengths and expertise.
