Abstract:Aryl hydrocarbon receptor(AHR)is a ligand dependent transcription factor and multifunctional signaling molecule that exists in the cytoplasm. It is widely present in various tissues and cells of the human body and can regulate the effects of environmental stimuli and stress responses on organisms when bound to ligands. At the cellular level, different ligands enable AHR to interact with different transcription partners, leading to the recruitment of AHR to different target DNA sequences, exerting specific biological effects and playing important roles in barrier protection, regulating cell proliferation, differentiation, metabolic regulation, immune response and more in the body. With the deepening of research, the function of AHR has been found to be broad.AHR can not only play a role through the classical signaling pathway, but also interact with other signaling pathways, and play an important role in the treatment of various diseases such as inflammation and tumors, providing new ideas for the prevention and treatment of related diseases. This review aims to comprehensively elucidate the research progress in the ligands of AHR,signaling pathways, and associations with various diseases.
