Abstract:Antibody-dependent enhancement(ADE)refers to the phenomenon that in some cases, antibodies not only fail to effectively neutralize pathogens, but also enhance the pathogen's ability to infect cells or cause more severe diseases. The ADE phenomenon of Middle East respiratory syndrome coronavirus(MERS-CoV)is complex and still under study. The current study suggests that ADE may be present in MERS-CoV infection, but the mechanisms involved are not fully understood, which may lead to an increased risk for vaccine development. This review discusses the mechanisms, influencing factors, and potential impacts of ADE in MERS-CoV,providing a theoretical basis for vaccine design and antibody drug development.
