Clinical effect of compound Huangbai liquid on preventing postoperative complications of mandibular mesio-impacted third molar

Abstract：Objective:To identify whether compound Huangbai liquid as a preventive medication after tooth extraction can effectively reduce the severity of postoperative complications such as pain,swelling,and restricted mouth opening.Methods:The cases of extraction of mesio-impacted mandibular third molars were collected in the Department of Oral Surgery,Affiliated Stomatological Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University,from January 2023 to December 2023.The patients were randomly divided into two groups.The treatment group was treated with compound Huangbai liquid for intraoperative tooth extraction socket irrigation and postoperative gargle,while the control group was treated with physiological saline for intraoperative tooth extraction socket irrigation and postoperative gargle.The main evaluation index was the maximum pain degree(visual analogue scale score)within one week after surgery,and the secondary evaluation index was the postoperative quality of life score.Results:A total of 80 patients were enrolled in the present study,including 17 men and 63 women,average age of(27.5±4.7)years.There were 45 patients in treatment group and 35 patients in control group.The maximum degree of pain within 1 week followed surgery in the treatment group(3.35±2.06)was lower than that in the control group(4.63±2.12),P=0.008.The duration of pain after tooth extraction in the treatment group,(2.49±1.47)days,was shorter than that in the control group,(3.37±1.85)days,P=0.024.The swelling days after tooth extraction in the treatment group,(2.38±1.64)days,were shorter than those in the control group,(3.46±1.54)days,P=0.004.The number of days with limited mouth opening in the treatment group,(2.84±1.1.55)days,was shorter than that in the control group,(3.40±1.56)days,P=0.117.The number of days affecting eating in the treatment group,(2.91±1.53)days,was less than that in the control group,(3.57±1.63)days,P=0.067.The impact on normal work days in the experimental group,(1.13±1.36)days,was less than that in the control group,(2.09±1.85)days,P=0.013.The impact on normal life days in the treatment group,(1.62±1.64)days,was shorter than that in the control group,(2.57±2.13)days,P=0.027.Conclusion:Compound Huangbai liquid can effectively prevent and alleviate pain of patients with mandibular mesio-impacted third molar after tooth extraction.It mitigates the impact on normal life and work,while enhancing the overall comfort degree after tooth extraction to a certain extent.
