Abstract:Traditional acute treatment medications for migraine have several limitations, including short duration of effect, suboptimal efficacy, and inadequate treatment response, and may lead to medication overuse headache.Recently, new medications targeting calcitonin gene related peptide(CGRP)have addressed these shortcomings, offering a novel option for acute migraine treatment. This article reviews and analyzes recent clinical studies on three new small-molecule CGRP receptor antagonists used in acute treatment of migraine, rimegepant, ubrogepant, and zavegepant,to provide insights into their efficacy and safety.
