Abstract:Objective: To analyze the prevalence and risk factors of potentially inappropriate medication ( PIM) among elderly outpatients. Methods: Outpatients aged ≥60 years old were recruited into this questionnaire survey. The list of PIM for the Chinese aged people and primary standard of PIM in Chinese aged people under morbid state were used as the references to analyze the prevalence and risk factors of PIM in elderly patients. Results: The average age of 590 enrolled outpatients was ( 70. 27 ± 8. 05) years and the average number of diseases was ( 2. 90 ± 1. 57). For each patient, ( 4. 01 ± 2. 37) kinds of medicines were being used. Among the surveyed subjects, 152 ( 25. 77%) had at least 1 case of PIM, 135 ( 22. 89%) used drugs included in the Chinese PIM List and 38 ( 6. 44%) uesd PIM under morbid state. Logistic regression analysis showed that the number of combined medications and disease or disease states were independent risk factors for PIM. Conclusion: The prevalence of PIM judged according to the Chinese PIM list and primary standard of PIM under morbid state is not optimistic in elderly outpatients. Risk factors of PIM are the number of combined medications and disease or disease states.
