Abstract:Objective: To investigate the therapeutic effect of Hedysari polysaccharides (HPS) and Hedysari polysaccharide HG-1 (HHG-1) on osteoarthritis (OA) and the local inflammatory reaction in rats. Methods: The Wistar rats were randomly divided into seven groups, and the OA model was replicated with papain. After HPS and HHG-1 intervention, the range of joint activity, the pathological changes of synovial membrane and its content of glycosaminoglycan (GAG), inflammatory cells and inflammatory factors in synovial lavage fluid (SLF) were measured. Results: HPS (1. 05, 0. 35 mg per joint) and HHG-1 (0. 45, 0. 15 mg per joint) can significantly expand the knee stretching angle, improve joint pathological changes, reduce synovial thickness, and increase the content of GAG in the synovial membrane of OA rats. At the same time, HPS and HHG-1 can decrease inflammatory cells and reduce the level of IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α in SLF (P<0. 05). Conclusion: HPS and HHG-1 had certain therapeutic effect on OA and one of the mechanisms is to alleviate the local inflammatory reaction.
