Analysis of patent protection situation of montelukast sodium in China

Abstract：Montelukast sodium is a first-line drug for asthma treatment and is the only leukotriene receptor antagonist approved by FDA for children aged 6 ～ 12 at present. In this paper, we introduced the patent protection situation of montelukast sodium in China to provide reference for the research and development of drug and patent protection system for domestic pharmaceutical enterprises. Besides Chinese patents related to montelukast sodium were collected, we also analyzed the overall situations of patent applications, the key areas of research and the development route of related patent technology in China. Patent protection situation of montelukast sodium should be analyzed deeply before the development of generic drugs by Pharmaceutical companies, research and development could be started from multiple perspectives, and the patent protection system should be constructed as soon as possible in order to improve the competitivenes of enterprises.
