Abstract:Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a common and incurable neurodegenerative disease. The prevalence of AD in older people is high.Encephalatrophy, huge number of senile plaque, neurofibrillary tangles, granular degeneration of nerve cells and massive loss of neurons are specific pathologic features of AD.Recent researches have found that, polyphenols can enter the central nervous system, improve brain function and fight against neurotoxic and neurodegenerative disorders caused by toxic substance, holding great potential in preventing and curing AD.In this review,we summarize the pathological and physiological mechanism of AD and the effects of polyphenols, aiming at looking for a new approach to cure AD.
