Progress in researches of hepatocyte growth factor and its receptor for new drug development

Abstract：Hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) plays significant roles in the development,regeneration and homeostasis of tissues,so do their receptors (Met).Abettant regulation of the growth factor signaling participates in almost every stage (from the onset and progression) of diseases and pathology in both positive and negative directions.Based on the important physiological and pathological roles of hepatocyte growth factor and their receptors,both HGF and Met have become the targets in drug discovery,for instance,selective inhibitors against hepatocyte growth factors and their growth factor receptors,are currently indispensable in the molecular targeted therapy of malignant tumors.On the other hand,in the cardiovascular system,HGF imitations and Met activators also made a lot progress in research and development of drugs.The progress of HGF and Met in malignant tumors and cardiovascular diseases was described in this article.
