Strategy on rights protection of clinical research participants with HIV/AIDS

Abstract:Objective:To investigate the implementation of the rights protection of clinical research participants with HIV/AIDS through in-depth survey,explore possible influencing factors and make proposals accordingly.Methods:From April 2014 to October 2014,130 participants with HIV/AIDS in clinical researches of two 3A hospitals in Beijing were surveyed.Their gender,age,education,income,experience of clinical researches and their knowledge of,attitude to,practice of and suggestions on the rights protection of clinical research participants were collected and statistically analyzed.Results:In general,the rights protection of participants in HIV/AIDS clinical researches was good,but there were still violations of their rights of informed consents and privacy.The major reasons were as followings:participants had unclear understanding of their own rights and the meaning of clinical research.Secondly,there was a contradiction between participants' personalized treatment and clinical researches' standardized protocols.Lastly,there were vulnerabilities during the process of protection.Conclusion:In consideration of the respondents' advice,it was suggested to improve the rights protection of clinical research participants with HIV/AIDS by strengthening training,supervision,legislation and other measures.
