Improving effect of butylphthalide on cognitive impairment in young and middle-aged cerebral infarction

Abstract：Objective:To study the effect of butylphthalide on cognitive impairment in young and middle-aged cerebral infarction,and to discuss its action mechanism.Methods:80 cases of acute ischemic stroke in young and middle-aged patients with cognitive dysfunction were randomly divided into control group and treatment group,40 cases in each group.The control group received routine treatment,and the drug group added butylphthalide soft capsules,with the frequency of 0.2 g per time,3 times per day,20 days for a course,interval of 10 days,and a total of 3 courses.After 1 month and 3 months of treatment,MMSE scores,serum VEGF and vascular collateral circulation rates were compared between the two groups.Results:After 1 month and 3 month of treatment,MMSE scores in the two groups were significantly increased,the differences were statistically significantly (P ＜ 0.05),the scores of the treatment group was significantly higher than that of control group,the differences of the two groups were no significant difference at 1 month (P ＞ 0.05),but were statistically significant difference (P ＜ 0.05) at 3 month.After treatment,the serum VEGF levels of 2 groups were increased firstly and then decreased,the differences of intro-group were statistically significant (P ＜ 0.05),and indexes in treatment group were significant increased than that in the control group,with significant difference between the two groups (P ＜ 0.05).After 3 months treat,the rates of collateral circulation in the control and treatment groups were 57.5％ and 80％,respectively,and there were differences between the groups (P ＜ 0.05).Conclusion:Butyphthalide soft capsule could effectively improve cognitive impairment in young and middle-aged cerebral infarction,and its action mechanism may be related to the induction of endogenous VEGF expression and angiogenesis.
