Research progress on Licorice flavonoids and their antitumor activities

Abstract：Flavonoid constituents from licorice have definite anticancer activities,including liquiritigenin,isoliquiritigenin,licochalcone A/E,and so on.They can inhibit the proliferation of tumor cells by blocking the cell cycle,influencing regulation of the apoptosis gene in the tumor cells,restraining the growth of blood vessel in tumor cells and have potential medicial values.Among the compounds,liquiritigenin and isoliquiritigenin are studied more profoundly,and they are promising to become efficient and hypotoxic antitumor drugs.This review summarizes the flavonoid constituents from licorice and the research of their antitumor activities in recent years,and the research direction and potential applications of such flavonoids compounds from licorice are also prospected.
