Abstract:Objective:To assess the efficacy and safety of butyphthalide in patients with massive cerebral infarction. Methods:Eighty patients with massive cerebral infarction were recruited from January 2015 to December 2015 prospectively and divided into two groups,42 for the dl-3-n-butylphthalide treatment group, and 38 for the control group with routine treatment. The 8-day,15-day,30-day and 90-day NIHSS score,BI index, effective rates and 90-day mRS score of the patients were recorded in both groups,as well as the 90-day fatality rate. Results:Regarding the NIHSS score and the BI index before the treatment as covariate,we found that the 30-day and 90-day NIHSS score,BI index, and effective rate were statistically significant different between the two groups (P < 0.05).The proportion of patients with good outcome (45.2%) in the butyphthalide treatment group was significantly higher than that in the control group (15.8%) (x2 =8.05,P < 0.05).The fatality rates of patients in the dl-3-n-butylphthalide treatment group and in the control group were 2.4% (1/42) and 18.4% (7/38)respectively and the difference between the two groups was statistically significant (P < 0.05).The frequencies of adverse events were similar between the two groups (9.5% vs 5.3%,P =0.766).Conclusion:Butyphthalide is effective and safe in the treatment of patients with massive cerebral infarction.
