Research progress in disposition of flavonoids in vivo

Abstract：Flavonoids exist extensively in plants and possess important biological activities. In this paper, we summarized the absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion of flavonoids in the body by searching the literature at home and abroad in recent years. The reported results show that flavonoids can be absorbed in stomach, small intestine and large intestine. The absorption rate and absorption location of flavonoids are different according to their chemical structures. Distribution of most flavonoids in vivo is consistent with their pharmacological action sites. Flavonoids are metabolized in the body primarily via hydrolysis, binding, cleavage and oxidation. They are mainly excreted from the body through kidney and bile, more by their metabolites, few by original forms.
