Considerations of the discount rate in pharmacoeconomic evaluation in China

Abstract：Nowadays, how to choose the reasonable theoretical discount rate in pharmacoeconomic evaluation in China is still unanswered. In this article, we described the impact factors of social discount rate, the objective requirements of its valuation, the applicable scope of cost-benefit analysis, and the relationship of discount rates used in pharmacoeconomic evaluation and their social discount rates in foreign counties. Based on these descriptions, we analyzed the relationship of discount rate in pharmacoeconomic evaluation and the social discount rate. Thus, we suggest that the discount rate used in pharmacoeconomic evaluation in China should be equal to its social discount rate 8% .
