Abstract:Objective:To investigate the bacteriostatic effects of bacterial biofilm inhibitor 3,4-dichlorofu-ran-2 (5H)-one combined with gentamycin on Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Methods:3,4-dichloro-furan-2 (5H)-one was selected as test compound from halogenated furanone compounds by screening their MIC and bacterial biofilm inhibitory activity. The orthogonal test and checkerboard microdilution method were employed to evaluate the effect of drugs on Pseudomonas aeruginosa. Results:Both 3,4-dichlorofuran-2 (5H)-one and gentamycin were confirmed to be important factors for inhibiting Pseudomonas aeruginosa when they were used together. The checkerboard mi-cro-dilution test suggested that the joint effect of gentamycin and 3,4-dichlorofuran-2 (5H)-one was additive. Con-clusion:An effective and additive effect was found when 3,4-dichlorofuran-2(5H)-one was combined with gentamy-cin on inhibiting Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
