Abstract:Treatment of brain tumors is a major problem. Traditional therapies have inability to completely eradicate tumor cells, while boron neutron capture therapy (BNCT) has better effects. BNCT is based on the selective accumulation of ~(10)B compounds in tumor cells, and the subsequent irradiation with thermal neutron is highly effective, so BNCT is one of the useful techniques for treatment of glioma. After capture of neutron by ~(10)B, a nuclear reaction occurs, and high linear energy transfer (LET) is yielded from produced lithium-7(~7Li) and energetic α-particles. This paper provides an overview of the research process and clinical studies of delivery agents for boron neutron capture therapy.
