Fibrin sealant and anaphylactic shock

Abstract：Fibrin sealant is effective for hemostasis and healing of tissue wounds, and has been widely used in surgical procedures. However, the use of fibrin sealant carries a risk of severe anaphylactic reaction, especially upon re-exposure to the material. This is due to allergenic potential of bovine aprotinin, a foreign protein, con-tained in fibrin sealant. This article reviews the composition of fibrin sealant, and the mechanisms and treatment of anaphylactic shock.
