Abstract:Objective: To investigate the improving effect of long-acting risperidone injection on quality of life in patients with schizophrenia. Methods: Patients were randomly divided into two groups, and treated with either risperidone long-acting injection ( n = 27 ) or haloperidol (n = 27) . The clinical symptoms, PANSS, Quality of Life Enjoyment and Satisfaction Questionnaire, and ESRS were evaluated at 4 weeks of follow-up intervals for 16 weeks. Results: In both groups, PANSS scores were significantly improved ( F =4. 439,P =0. 013) ,and there was no significant difference between two groups (F =2.013 ,P =0. 162). However, long-acting risperidone injection significantly improved the scores of Quality of Life Enjoyment and Satisfaction Questionnaire ( F = 7. 358, P = 0. 000 ) as compared with baseline values, but haloperidol did not show significant improvement. Long-acting risperidone injection improved the scores of Quality of Life Enjoyment and Satisfaction Questionnaire better than haloperidol at week 16 ( P < 0. 05 ). In addition, long-acting risperidone injection had less ESRS than haloperidol (F =50. 589, P =0.000). Conclusion: Long-term treatment with long-acting risperidone injection improves Quality of Life Enjoyment and Satisfaction Questionnaire better than haloperidol. Both long-acting risperidone injection and haloperidol show similar efficacies on schizophrenia as evaluated by total PANSS score, but long-acting risperidone injection causes less ESRS.
